Graphic Assets for Builders

Just thought I'd open a thread for links to useful graphic asset (first port of call should be the Forgotten Realms Unlimited Adventures site of course!).

I spotted these on OpenGameArt. Chris Hamons has (very kindly) posted 6000 tiles used in the creation of Dungeon Crawl Soup into in the public domain, with an ask (rather than license restriction) that any use provides a link to OpenGameArt.

First batch of 3000 tiles:

Second batch:

They look great! And they'd work really well with Iceblink I think.

Wow, that looks amazing! 3,000 assets will be a nice catalogue for builders. Thanks for the post, Pongo.

Those tiles look great. We definitely need more default assets in IBbasic.

Yeah, I think they'd work well with Hearkenwold Dorateen!

Some more useful assets here. 4000 game icons for GUI, spells, traits etc, lots of variety, all black and white but easily colourised. I've been playing around with them in GIMP to make some new spell icons for Iceblink and they look pretty nice. Link to the website here:

I was looking for some free tiles to do an Overland map. Found these by Beast, they're exactly what I was after and in the public domain so anyone can use them:

These are great for a "parchment map" style. Not quite what I'm after this time but I might use some the building designs, which are nice icons. Again free use:

I'm going to use Inkarnate.com for generating maps from now on. I'd definitely recommend to anyone looking at mapping options.

Its incredibly simple to use and has good effects. I made both of these maps in under an hour - they're my first attempts, so they're pretty basic (no roads or fancy tricks etc - some of the stuff other folk produce is jaw-dropping), but I'm still impressed by the results.

I suspect it doesn't have the depth as Campaign Cartographer, which I've used in the past, but its far easier to use. Its basically point and click with layers and a few nice tricks. Its also cheaper. There's a free version that doesn't have full functionality (which is worth checking out) but I've now upgraded to the subscription version ($25 a year) which has loads more options.

These are examples of the overland maps, but you can do battle maps, city maps, world atlases etc. The gridlines can be removed, they're just there to help me keep track of where I'm placing the locations etc. They won't be in the final versions.

It will probably look a bit weird in contrast with with the pixel based tokens and location backgrounds, but hey ho.

These look great! Now you just have to find more detailed looking tokens for every creature and PC  haha. Okay, yeah, the current FRUA type tokens should still work great I think. I think if there is consistency in the map style and a separate consistency in the token style, the two would still work well together. I see this sometimes used in shows with a mixture of realistic backgrounds and more simplistic characters in the foreground.

Ha yeah exactly! I love how simple it was to put together these maps, but I need to see how it works with the tokens really.

I think I'm likely to use Epic Character Generator to do the portraits, which are also fairly realistic. I'm now debating whether to use the Inkarnate top down battlemaps rather than a pixel based tileset, which would really make the FRUA tokens and out. Maybe I could use the portraits as tokens or something (a bit like Battle Brothers or a tabletop token). Or maybe yeah just stick with the FRUA style tokens and see how it goes :D

Oh well - working all this stuff out is part of the fun! I'll no doubt be trying out a few things before it settles into a definite plan.

The maps indeed look great. I would love to use a program like this to design a detailed "overview" map of showing all the Hearkenwold areas connected.
