Starting to get back into coding some more again for IBbasic. I started cleaning up the graphics folders with just the bare minimum for the default installation. I then started testing building a module from scratch with an initial area (3d area), a convo from a trigger with an image, an encounter after that convo. I had to make a number of fixes and polish tweaks, but it is starting to come together well.

Side note...How many IB community members use iOS or MacOS? Trying to decide when and if to invest in the annual Apple developer fee.

That's a very promising start there :) .

I have an old iPad (v2?) here to test iOS, but no MacBook or the like. In the long run, iOS will just make sense to support, I think. Whether to start now, is hard to tell for me. As I would clearly use the iOS platform for adventure publication later on, I would be more than willing to support any annual costs arising from this (or for web site hosting, btw).

That does sound like a good start. I used to have an iPhone but got an Android for Iceblink! I don't use any other iOS devices, but I'm not against them and feel much the same way Karl does.

Thanks KArl and Zack for the feedback on iOS and MacOS. All the code is there and I have the MacMini for compiling the code, just need to go through the tricky provisioning process just to install the app on a test device (after signing up as a dev first of course).

More testing of the 3dView option in IBbasic plus a convo and encounter (and hide the trigger image after encounter completes):

Here is a test of the overlay system:

Those look awesome! So much diversity on the 3D map. The overlay system is great for adding detail and variance to the maps. Also, everything looks very cohesive and fitting in style and setup. Evokes sweet memories of Pool of Radiance :) .

Yeah I'm pretty excited about how good that 3d is looking. Great work.

Thanks guys! I added the code for the backdrop bands. Here is an example of how it is looking so far:

next up I think I will add the ability to have directional backdrops and day/night changes. I'll do this by having backdrop files be three different sizes:
88x88 no directions or time of day
352x88 N,S,E,W direction images but no time of day images (four 88x88 images laid out horizontally in file)
352x352 directions and time of day (day, sunset, night, sunrise) (16 88x88 images laid out horizontally for directions and vertically for time of day)

I added the ability to have backdrop sets that include different images for each direction and time of day (16 total images per backdrop set image sheet):

Here is the backdrop image used in the above video test:
